Abstract

Introduction: Deciduous dentition plays a fundamental role in craniofacial development, contributing to the maintenance of space in the dental arches, guiding the eruption of permanent teeth, and ensuring the functional balance of the stomatognathic system. Premature loss of these teeth can cause structural changes, including space loss, misalignment, and an increased risk of malocclusion. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the impact of premature deciduous tooth loss on craniofacial development. Methodology: A literature review was conducted using the PubMed database, including articles published between 2022 and 2026, with a final selection of 14 studies. Results: The results showed an association between premature tooth loss, alterations in dental arch development, and compromised occlusion. Discussion: The discussion reinforced the importance of deciduous dentition for proper craniofacial growth and highlighted the need for preventive interventions. Conclusion: It is concluded that early diagnosis and the use of interceptive measures are essential to prevent structural and functional changes and to promote proper craniofacial development.
