THE ROLE OF THE PHARMACIST IN ENSURING THE QUALITY OF MEDICINES IN DISTRIBUTION COMPANIES: CHALLENGES AND TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Abstract

Introduction: in this context, the pharmacist plays a strategic role in distributors, supervising storage, transportation, and traceability processes to guarantee product safety and effectiveness. Justification: the choice of this topic arises from the growing logistical complexity of the pharmaceutical sector and the need for qualified professionals to prevent risks of nonconformities and counterfeit medicines. Objective: to analyze the pharmacist’s role in maintaining quality in distributors, highlighting challenges, technical responsibilities, and impacts on public health. Methodology: this study is based on a narrative literature review of works published between 2023 and 2025 in databases such as SciELO, PubMed, and Google Scholar. It concludes that the qualified performance of the pharmacist strengthens patient safety and confidence in the supply chain. Results: It was evidenced that the pharmacist, by implementing Good Distribution Practices, using traceability technologies, supervising the cold chain, and training teams, directly contributes to reducing operational failures, preventing counterfeiting, and strengthening confidence in the supply chain. Conclusion: It is concluded that the qualified performance of pharmacists in distributors transcends the technical sphere, assuming social and strategic relevance by ensuring patient safety, the sustainability of the healthcare system, and the consolidation of public policies aimed at the quality of medicines.
