Abstract

Introduction: Prolonged stay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) may be related to weakness, immobility and respiratory failure. Physiotherapy has played an important role nowadays with regard to patients who are restricted to bed inside an ICU in order to provide an improvement in the patient's general physiological conditioning, better quality of life and then hospital discharge. Objective:To analyze the practice of early mobilization through the literature and its functionality at discharge with the length of stay in the ICU in order to avoid respiratory or motor complications for these patients. Materials and Methods: The study consists of a literature review of case studies, clinical trials, randomized or not, retrospective studies and reviews published between the years 2017 to 2022. Results: Twenty-seven publications were obtained for analysis, of which 12 were excluded because they did not meet the inclusion: criteria. Regarding the knowledge of professionals about early mobilization in the ICU, there was agreement among the 16 articles analyzed, reporting that most professionals know its benefits and interventions.
