Artificial Intelligence (AI) drives innovation in various fields. In this scenario, the energy sector, through tools such as smart grids and autonomous networks, has been able to optimize distribution, reduce losses, and incorporate renewable sources, directly contributing to progress and sustainability goals. The Brazilian energy matrix, following this trend, faces structural challenges related to growing demand, the integration of renewable sources into the electrical system, and technical and non-technical losses that increasingly compromise the efficiency and reliability of the sector. This study analyzed the application of AI in the management of electricity distribution and transmission, with an emphasis on projection, loss control, and increased operational efficiency. The methodological approach contextualizes, through a literature review, the main types of losses and their economic and social impacts. Furthermore, it discusses emerging AI-based technologies, such as artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, Big Data, and smart sensors, applied in utilities for fraud detection, fault prediction, and the integration of renewable energies. The results show that the adoption of these technological solutions represents a significant advance for the sustainability of the sector, by reducing costs, increasing reliability and contributing to the modernization of the Brazilian electricity grid.
