Introduction: This research addresses a highly relevant topic: gestational hypertensive syndromes, which encompass a series of complications during this phase and are common due to the number of women affected, representing an important cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. These conditions are characterized by elevated blood pressure and can lead to complications such as intrauterine growth restriction, prematurity, low birth weight, and even maternal and neonatal death. Objective: To present the characteristics of hypertensive syndromes during pregnancy, arguing that they are a public health problem. Method: The research is a systematic literature review, in which the author uses research and studies, such as articles, medical journals, and other periodicals taken from the Scielo, Pubmed, CAPES, and BVS databases, with the application of descriptors to provide a theoretical basis. Results: The results indicated that the development of preventive strategies, such as the use of low-dose aspirin, calcium supplementation and adequate weight and diet control, are essential to reduce the incidence and complications. Conclusion: It was concluded that strict monitoring during prenatal care and education of pregnant women also play a fundamental role in mitigating risks.
