School Dropout. Causes and Consequences. Educational Policies.Abstract
This article discusses school dropout, a phenomenon widely debated in various contexts, such as educational meetings and discussion forums. It is a complex problem that directly affects the Brazilian education system, compromising not only the development of the educational process but also the social and economic dimensions of communities. Dropout is a bottleneck that occurs at all levels of education, from early childhood education to higher education, and is a constant concern for educational institutions. The research addresses factors such as socioeconomic difficulties, inadequate infrastructure, family problems, violence, and the devaluation of the educational process, which contribute to high dropout rates. Furthermore, school dropouts have serious consequences not only for the individual learning but for the entire social fabric of a developing nation. Combating school dropout requires effective public policies that address underlying causes such as poverty, lack of infrastructure, non-permanence, and the need for social programs to support students. Based on this analysis, this article seeks to inform the formulation of more effective educational policies aimed at combating school dropout, ensuring students' access to and retention in institutions, and providing a truly inclusive environment for their full development. The objective of this study is to analyze the main causes that lead students to drop out of school, as well as the consequences of this action, both for individuals and for society as a whole.
