Polyamorous relationships are increasingly prevalent and are the subject of debate in society, and within this type of relationship is the three-way. Three-way families are families formed by three people, founded on affection, good faith, publicity, and stable cohabitation. The general objective of this essay is to understand the historical transformation that occurred leading up to the emergence of this type of relationship, evaluating the legal and psychological effects of this type of relationship on those involved and other members of contemporary society. The research presents a historical overview of the concept of family, highlighting the lack of formal legal recognition for three-way relationships in the Brazilian legal system, while also highlighting the relevance of this topic for understanding ongoing social transformations.
