Abstract

This article aimed to investigate the importance of access to quality prenatal care to ensure the health of the pregnant woman and the baby, highlighting the nurse as the protagonist in the prenatal consultation, working with a humanized, preventive, educational approach centered on health promotion, focusing on mothers with low education levels. This study highlights the importance of the nurse as a fundamental link, promoting maternal health in an individualised and respectful manner. The research was based on an integrative review, analyzing the role of the nurse in prenatal consultations. Seven scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025 were evaluated, analyzing the essential role of the nurse in prenatal consultations, considering the challenges and barriers faced by these women in accessing and understanding the gestational process. The prenatal consultation has been identified as a strategic and necessary action for the early identification of risks and complications, ensuring comprehensive and effective care for the health of the pregnant woman and the baby. It is concluded that the nurse goes beyond technique, involving emotional support, education, and qualified listening for a safe delivery. Thus, it is necessary to ensure easy access to health services, understandable information, in addition to investing in ongoing training for the nurse.
