Family farming has a great diversity of practices and systems, playing an essential role in Brazil, covering 77 % of rural establishments and contributing to the national GDP. Despite the challenges in marketing, this activity plays an important role in promoting healthy foods and in the economic diversification of family farmers. Currently, some government programs support the commercialization of products, through the regulation of artisanal products and the distribution of these foods in social assistance areas and schools. With this in mind, the aim of this work is to elucidate the market acceptance of animal products from family farming. To this end, an integrative literature review was carried out, taking as databases the platforms SCIELO, PUBMED, Portal Periódico CAPES/MEC, in addition to data obtained from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation and legislation in force in Brazil. Thus, 26 publications were selected to prepare the present study. Challenges are presented in the market for family farming products, and it is important to develop regulations, such as the Brazilian System of Inspection of Products of Animal Origin and the Selo ARTE, which allow the formal trade of products, appreciation and greater guarantee of food safety. Furthermore, institutional programs, such as the Food Acquisition Program and the National School Food Program, play an important role in the flow of production and the consequent guarantee of income for producers, in addition to organizing them into cooperative groups. It is crucial to implement public policies to encourage increased production and specialization of labor, in order to guarantee compliance with the high populational demand for food, thus allowing quality production and producers to remain in the field.
