SUBCUTANEOUS INSULIN RESISTANCE SYNDROME: A LITERARY REVIEW

Abstract

Subcutaneous Insulin Resistance (SIR) is a rare syndrome where insulin administered under the skin doesn't function properly, but insulin in the bloodstream continues to have a normal effect. Its exact cause is still unknown, primarily affecting young women with insulin-dependent diabetes. This condition often leads to complications such as ketoacidosis, persistent ketonuria, and infections. Proposed treatments have undergone various tests, including combining additives to delay insulin degradation, intravenous and intramuscular insulin infusion, yet these options proved ineffective in both short and long term. Consequently, treatment with peritoneal insulin infusion pump has shown to be a promising option for glycemic control in SIR patients.
