Abstract

Hospital Dentistry is dental practice in a hospital environment, offering low, medium or high complexity care to hospitalized patients, with the aim of contributing to healing and improving quality of life. In this context, the study aims to highlight the importance of the dentist in preventing oral infections in patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The results show that hospital dentistry plays a vital role in the prevention and treatment of oral cavity infections in ICU patients. Oral health is a critical component of a patient's overall well-being, and neglecting this area can lead to serious complications, including systemic infections and prolonged ICU stays. Therefore, the study concludes that maintaining oral health is not only essential for the patient's well-being, but also contributes to a better prognosis and reduced length of stay in the ICU. Interdisciplinarity and the commitment of the entire healthcare team are essential to guarantee comprehensive and quality care for patients in the ICU. Attention to oral health should not be underestimated, as it can make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable patients.
