Abstract

Periodontitis is one of the most common diseases worldwide and strongly affects women during pregnancy, caused by gram-negative microorganisms. Of course, this unpleasant disease does not affect all women, there are several factors that can predispose the patient to this disease, but it is a disease that can be prevented, with hygiene guidelines, treatment of existing diseases, everything depends on the medical history, the anamnesis, the need for treatment and the period of pregnancy, in the first and last trimester it is not advisable to do certain procedures. Pregnancy has specific characteristics that guide the treatment process in each trimester, therefore, the health professionals of the family health strategy, including the oral health team, must provide specific and appropriate guidance to pregnant women. The recommendation of the Ministry of Health is that all pregnant women in the area covered by the Health Care Networks (RAS), are referred to the dentist at least once during pregnancy for dental care during pregnancy, to ensure at least one prenatal dental visit. However, if the delivery is managed privately, dental care is not mandatory for pregnant women, and some doctors say it is even unnecessary, unlike in public health care networks.
