Abstract

AIDS emerged in the 1980s and to this day is a disease without a cure, although adequate treatment can control the disease, enabling the quality of life to the infected individual. In view of this, the objective of this study was to present the evolution of Aids in Brazil, verifying advances and retrospectives on the rates of contagion and mortality, as well as advances or setbacks on the forms of treatment and its effectiveness. For this, a Bibliographic Review was carried out, considering the studies published that century, found in the research bases Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, Periódico Capes, Pubmed and Redalyc and Scielo. The results indicate that the mortality rate has reduced over the years, a fact that corresponds to a better quality of life offered through art. It is concluded that medical advances have had a positive impact on advances in the treatment of AIDS in Brazil, although economic and social aspects still have a considerable impact on access to and adherence to treatment.
