Considering that Brazil has the greatest biodiversity in the world, there are countless problems that threaten its preservation, especially considering the growth of economic activities and the excessive use of natural resources in disagreement with established norms. In view of this, specially protected spaces are gaining more notoriety, bearing in mind that they act to ensure the preservation and maintenance of the environment. Thus, the general objective of this article is to demonstrate the importance of specially protected spaces, and how they influence the search for an ecologically balanced environment. Nevertheless, the specific objectives are to denote the importance of the Public Power's role in promoting the ecological environment, to demonstrate how the Public Power can act in the preservation of biodiversity through the instruments of the National Environmental Policy, and finally , explain what actions can be taken by society to maintain and protect the ecosystem. Therefore, as for the methodology, this article was elaborated by bibliographical and legislative research through physical and virtual books, articles and scientific journals, theses, as well as the legislation pertinent to the subject. This time, it can be inferred that the delimitation and maintenance of these specially protected spaces constitutes an important value, while the role of the Public Power together with the community in the implementation of environmental norms for the promotion and preservation of an environment is indispensable. ecologically balanced, for present and future generations.
