Bichectomy consists of an outpatient surgical procedure for the removal of part of the buccal adipose body. This study aimed to present bichectomy surgery, regarding the anatomy of the area, the clinical applications of the Bichat ball, indications, contraindications, surgical techniques and possible complications. This is a literature review, using scientific articles, course completion papers and master's dissertations. The materials were compared and discussed concluding that the buccal adipose body can be pulled to be used in buccal sinus grafts and fistulas, in addition to its removal for functional and aesthetic purposes, promoting a harmony of the face.
