Abstract

Accentuated weight loss in large animals is a worrying condition that requires adequate attention and care. This summary addresses the main aspects related to severe weight loss in large animals. Accentuated weight loss can be caused by a variety of factors, such as chronic illnesses, infections, nutritional imbalances, dental problems, stress, among others. Identifying the underlying cause through clinical, laboratory, and diagnostic tests is essential. Treatment of severe weight loss involves addressing the underlying cause and providing adequate nutritional support. Depending on the condition of the animal, medical, surgical or pharmacological interventions may be necessary. A multidisciplinary approach, involving veterinarians, nutritionists and other specialists, is recommended to ensure comprehensive care. Regular monitoring of the animal is critical to assess the effectiveness of treatment and make adjustments as necessary. This includes monitoring the animal's body weight, body condition and overall health. In addition, education and guidance to owners are essential to ensure successful treatment and prevent recurrences. Throughout the treatment process, animal welfare must be a priority. A suitable environment, adequate stress management and meeting the animal's behavioral needs are essential to promote its recovery. In conclusion, severe weight loss in large animals requires a comprehensive approach, involving identification of the underlying cause, adequate treatment, regular monitoring and holistic care. By following these guidelines, it is possible to improve the health and well-being of affected animals.
