Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a frequent dermatological disorder of hair loss, which is directly related to androgenic hormones and has a strong genetic influence. The aim of this review was to analyze the therapeutic options used in AGA, taking into account the psychosocial impact caused to the bald individual. Thus, evaluating the adherence and effectiveness of existing therapies. The methodology of this study proposes a compilation of bibliographic research with a qualitative approach and descriptive character through an integrative literature review in the National Library of Medicine (Pubmed), Directory of Open Accsses Journals (DOAJ) and Journal Portal databases CAPES/MEC. The descriptors used were “alopecia androgenetic”, “therapeutics”, “hair”, “male”, using the Boolean operator “and”. Inclusion criteria were clinical trial articles, journal article, original articles, clinical trials, randomized or non-randomized, cohort studies, case-control studies, open access, published in English, Spanish, Portuguese, within the period of 2011 to 2021. The therapeutic methods for AGA reported were minoxidil, finasteride, dutasteride, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), low-level light therapy, cetirizine, botulinum toxin type A, and hair transplantation. Thus, it is observed that there are several treatments under increasing study, however, therapies with minoxidil, finasteride and PRP stand out, due to their greater availability of access and high efficacy.
