RECONSTRUCTION OF BODY IMAGE AND SELF-ACCEPTANCE IN BARIATRIC PATIENTS: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Objective: To analyze the problems that may occur with obese patients during the bariatric surgery process. Psychological disorders linked to body image distortion are seen throughout the process related to bariatric surgery and its subsequent maintenance.body that surgery induces does not follow the visual model that the patient has about himself and he is often not aware of the real consequences of abrupt weight loss. Methods: This is a qualitative integrative review carried out in databases of the virtual library in health (BVS) and PUBMED using the descriptors “Body image” and “ Bariatric Surgery”. Articles that deviate from the topics, duplicates, literature reviews and those unavailable in full were excluded. Longitudinal studies, prospective study, case-control, cross-sectional study and qualitative study, obtaining 25 final articles. Results: From the analysis of the studies,it was seen that most of the articles were in line when relating body image with psychosocial symptoms,it was also observed the positive relationship of body countorning surgery as a positive factor for the patient’s well-being. Conclusion: It is concluded that, for the adequate effectiveness of the treatment, a more assiduous follow-up of the professionals involved in this process is necessary, in addition to the awareness that the treatment starts before the surgery and does not end after it.
