Objective: To analyze the advantages and disadvantages of videolaryngoscopy (LGV) compared to direct laryngoscopy (LD), in order to understand the benefits of the procedures mentioned. Methods: The methodological approach of this work is proposed to a compiled of bibliographic research of qualitative and descriptive character through an integrative review of the literature in the electronic databases National Library of Medicine, Directory of Open Access Journals and Scientific Electronic Library Online. The descriptors used were: ́ ́Videolaryngoscopy ́ ́, ́́Direct Laryngoscopy ́ ́ and ́ ́Intubation ́ ́. Inclusion criteria were clinical trial, newspaper articles, free and full text and articles published between 2006 and 2021. Results: They demonstrated better glottic visualization, higher rates of intubation success and lower airway trauma due to lower forces applied to soft tissues during the procedure when lgVv is used. However, the intubation time was longer when compared to LD. Final Considerations: Thus, LGV vitis proved to be a superior tool in the intubation process and may be associated with lower rates of iatrogenesis.
