Abstract

Acupuncture is an ancient medicine that aims to treat and cure imbalances in the body through channels called meridians, which have direct access to the central nervous system releasing chemical substances with analgesic and/or inflammatory effects. Among the numerous conditions that acupuncture treats with excellence, we have low back pain. Low back pain is one of the pathologies that most affect the locomotor system, whether due to muscle weakness or energy imbalance. In the West, it is estimated that approximately 50 million people per year are attended only by health services with low back pain, becoming one of the main causes of absenteeism in industrialized countries, with repercussions on the socioeconomic life of the individual. The objective of this article was to gather scientific evidence that proves the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of low back pain from the point of view of different authors. For this study, the methodology adopted was the research of scientific articles published on internet sites, in addition to specific books and specialized magazines.
