The objective of this work is to bring about the feasibility of a greater understanding of what childhood depression is, as well as its intrinsic issues, such as the way in which the diagnosis is made. Its methodology consists of a bibliographic review, of a descriptive nature. Data collection was carried out in the SciELO, PubMed, BVS and Google Scholar databases, in English and Portuguese, published in the last 5 years (2017-2022). Thirty texts were evaluated in full. Considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria, only 11 articles were selected for analysis. After this excursion made by the subject, it is noticed the need of a sharper look at our children, needing caution, because if on one hand there is the concern in diagnosing and treating childhood depression as soon as possible, on the other hand it must be care should be taken not to confuse normal mood states or developmental stages of the child with a nosological condition.
