Among the existing therapeutic possibilities for prostate cancer, radical prostatectomy is the most indicated. Also called radical prostatovesiculectomy or radical prostate surgery, it consists of the total removal of the gland, adjacent organs and a small portion of the bladder. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of radical prostatovesiculectomy procedures from December 2014 to December 2019. This is an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study carried out using information available in the DATASUS database from December 2014 to December 2019, evaluating the number of hospitalizations, average length of stay and mortality rate of the radical prostatovesiculectomy procedure. During the analyzed time interval, there were, in Brazil, a total of 4,479 hospitalizations for the realization of radical prostatectomy; in relation to the average stay, we have a total value of 4.9 days; and in terms of mortality rate, we have a total of 0.20%. Radical prostate surgery is a procedure that is not without complications. However, its morbidity reaches high numbers and can impair the patient's quality of life. Radical prostate surgery had the highest number of admissions found in the Southeast region, due to greater and better distribution of specialized services. The mortality rate is low, and the procedure is not without complications. The length of stay varies according to the region and the infrastructure it has to follow up the prostatectomy and its postoperative conditions.
