The main objective of this paper is to present a text that serves as didactic material for teaching the fundamental concepts of geometric optics, bringing to light the usefulness of geometric optics in everyday life, giving emphasis to established concepts of geometric optics. In this sense, the following topics are addressed: light sources; light propagation media (transparent, translucent, opaque); rays, beams and light brush; the principles of geometric optics; the reflection of light; the laws of light reflection; flat and spherical mirrors; image formation; refraction; refractive index; refringence; flat diopter; total internal reflection; spherical lenses (converging and diverging).
