The need for rehabilitation and reinforcement of reinforced concrete structures are currently important strategies employed to increase the useful life of structures, especially in buildings that constitute historical heritage, also promoting the minimization of waste generation from civil construction. The north of the present work sought to trace the main mechanisms that lead to the deterioration of structures, whether physical, mechanical, chemical and biological processes and their possible solutions. The general objective is to analyze the design and execution stages of the project, which play a very crucial role in minimizing the deterioration of structures. The methodology adopted was that of bibliographical research. Among the main results is that reinforcements can be applied at various levels and for different systems and the use of polymeric composites reinforced with fibers has proven to be an efficient and modern technique to reinforce reinforced concrete structures.
