This article aims to present some of the changes that have become essential in teaching practice in relation to the teaching of the Portuguese language. Firstly, regarding the issue of literacy as a perspective of teaching reading and writing that goes beyond the mere junction of letters and syllables, and then, the multiliteracies that come to give voice to the literacies that have emerged with modern life. In addition, we present some digital literacies that can contribute to the development of essential skills for students to participate in the world. And, finally, the importance of using technologies as allies in the teaching and development of digitally literate students.
