HIV infection is considered today a major public health problem, it has a pandemic character for which there is no cure or vaccine, causing several deaths per year. It is worth mentioning that HIV infection is not synonymous with AIDS, the HIV virus being the precursor of the disease that presents itself as an advanced clinical manifestation when the individual is not treated early, thus weakening the immune system and making the individual susceptible to other diseases. The present work is justified because it is a topic in which it needs to be always studied and to be a topic that is always current. In this sense, it appears that the vertical transmission of HIV is a major challenge in public health that needs to be faced head on by health professionals in our country, and such professionals need to be prepared for what they will face. In this way, nursing professionals have the duty to exercise a key and challenging participation, since the contact with the affected is direct and emotional, and these professionals can act from the capture of information, to more specific and no less important care. The objective of this study was to analyze the role of nurses in the face of factors related to vertical transmission of HIV, such as the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of this pathology. The research was based on a study on topics about HIV and the role of nurses in the face of vertical transmission in prenatal care. Thus, the research can be classified as bibliographic whose methodological procedures included bibliographic research with a qualitative approach.
