Abstract

The National Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus Program (HIPERDIA) prioritizes actions for the prevention, promotion and recovery of the population's health, in an integral and continuous way, enabling the reduction of cases of Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) and Diabetes Mellitus (DM) , which has become a global health problem, due to several factors, including poor diet. Objective: to describe the effectiveness of the HIPERDIA program in primary health care and to present its importance in the prevention of Chronic NonCommunicable Diseases (NCDs). Methodology: Searches were performed through available digital platforms, such as Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Caribbean in Health Sciences (LILACS) and various virtual libraries of specialized journals. In the searches, the descriptors in Portuguese and and /or were used. Publications carried out between 2010-2020 in Portuguese and consistent with the theme met the inclusion criteria. Results and discussions: The study of the literature shows that to reduce the number of hospitalizations and to achieve adequate follow-up and treatment in primary care, HIPERDIA has been highlighted for meeting the proposed objectives. The cases of SAH are greater than that of DM, due to changes that occur with aging and poor eating habits. Therefore, the BP control carried out by the program has been obtaining satisfactory results, both with drug and nondrug treatment. Conclusion: Through the work presented, it can be observed that the HIPERDIA program has become a great reference for the population that is in search of selfknowledge about hypertension and diabetes. SAH and DM are adequately controlled and with multidisciplinary professionals; nutritionists, nurses, doctors, physical educators and physiotherapists.
