The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the most important and most studied ligaments of the knee and the injury of this structure becomes a challenge for physicians in choosing the appropriate treatment to ensure beneficial rehabilitation for the patient's health. The objective of this study was to know new methods of treatment and means of rehabilitation for the patient with ACL injury. This is a literature review, which incorporated 25 articles searched in PubMed, LILACS and SCIELO databases in the last 5 years (until the month of April), after meeting the inclusion criteria (articles from 2015 to 2021 in Portuguese, English and Spanish languages and open access, of the type case report, clinical trial and original article). The results showed the treatment of the injury in 14 articles, the rehabilitation techniques in 9 articles, and only 2 had presented the treatment and rehabilitation methods in the same publication. The study also highlights the effectiveness of the methods presented, classifying them into: total efficiency of the method, relative efficiency of the method, apparently beneficial efficiency but without many studies on the method, and finally, method without significant efficiency. It was concluded that it is extremely important to choose the correct treatment for ACL injury, considering the context of the individual and its effectiveness, and the beneficial rehabilitation protocol after ACL.
