Linguistic prejudice is a form of social discrimination that is present in society, sometimes going unnoticed. Aiming to expose one of the forms of presentation of this behavior, this work presents the social, political and economic comparison of teachers and councilors of the municipality of Breves, in the state of Pará. It is intended to highlight the fact that the knowledge of the standard norm was not the means by which they reached the "top of the social pyramid", since their level of schooling is low in reference to the class of teachers in the city, who are in constant struggle, demonstrations and even strikes to guarantee their rights. The ideas and data presented here are, therefore, in line with Bagno (2008), pointing [1]out that mastering “standard” does not imply becoming a boss, and reflection is necessary in order to break the “vicious circle of linguistic prejudice and that of his brother, the vicious circle of social injustice”.
