The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality of teaching of undergraduate students from the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Pernambuco and the Federal University of Pernambuco in relation to their behavior in the face of dental reimplantation. The population studied consisted of 176 students from the ninth and tenth semesters of the second semester of 2006. The students were submitted to a questionnaire, which sought information regarding the behavior in the face of an avulsed tooth. As a result of the questions, the items with the highest hit rates in the total group of students surveyed were recorded for: “What is tooth avulsion?”, which, with the exception of one student, all the others got the question right (99.4%), “What is the type of immobilization of the replanted tooth thirty minutes after the accident without any alveolar fracture?” (83.5%), “When should we remove the periodontal ligament fibers before performing the reimplantation? (75.0%). The lowest percentage of correct answers occurred in the question: “When is a prognosis considered bad after tooth replantation?” (17.6%). It can be concluded that greater attention is needed from educational institutions towards students with regard to dental reimplantation, as there are still many doubts on the part of these future professionals.
