According to the World Health Organization, traumas are among the leading causes of death and morbidity. Trauma to the face can affect skin, fat, muscle, neurovascular, bone, and even brain structures, depending on the kinetic energy involved in the trauma. This paper aims to report a clinical case of a victim of a car accident, in order to describe the management of these patients in the emergency and the importance of the presence of the oral and maxillofacial surgeon in the multidisciplinary team. A 21-year-old female patient, Caucasian, presented at the Santa Casa of Araçatuba, SP, after having suffered an automobile accident 4 days before. During the extra-oral physical examination, ecchymosis and swelling was observed in the left mandibular angle region and limited mouth opening. The proposed treatment was reduction and fixation of the fractures with plates and screws of the 2.0 system. Given this, we can conclude that in view of the high prevalence and incidence of facial trauma, it is necessary to have a clear understanding of the patterns of injuries that affect the face.
