In Brazilian penitentiary scenario, with high rates of criminal recidivism, several measures are used as a way of re-socializing theguilty and, as a consequence, preventing them from committing crimes again, including prison work. In this context, the present study aimed to analyze the context of prison work practices adopted as a form of resocialization in Brazil by carrying out a bibliographic and documentary study based on the academic production that underlies the theme. It is possible to infer that the process of resocialization in Brazil is hampered by the shortcomings of the Brazilian penitentiary system, aggravated by problems such as the overcrowding. Although initiatives that help in the process of resocialization of inmates through prison work are observed, some limitations can be observed, given that this constitutes a process that demands, in addition to investments by the State, public-private partnerships and the effective participation of society.
