Abstract

Data from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) reveal that the ultraviolet index on the country is extremely high, which would be enough to motivate the Brazilian population to use sunscreens and physical barriers against the sun. However, it is observed that Brazilians have great difficulty in adhering to the frequent use of these preventive measures against these two major risks. This research aims to make a narrative review of the literature on the importance of using sunscreen in the prevention of skin cancer. The material collection process was carried out in a non-systematic way from March to May 2021. Scientific databases were searched, such as: Scielo, Medline, Lilacs and Pubmed. The database was supplemented with materials indicated by specialists in the subject. Based on the researched material, it appears that it is necessary for people to change their habits, which is a slow process, but which must start little by little with everyone's awareness and participation.
