Abstract

To meet the specificities of the Youth and Adult Education (EJA) modality, or science teaching, it is necessary to understand didactic and pedagogical aspects, which attend to the social and restorative function intended by the teaching modality. This essay had the objective of presenting Educação STS, based on the pedagogy of Paulo Freire, as an alternative for a science teaching with meaning in EJA. Through the bibliographical research, I have Educação CTS as a reference, and the analysis of normative documents, looking for ways to promote a science education that promotes training for citizenship, intended in the EJA modality. The inclusion of generative themes, of social relevance to the teaching of science, coupled with interdisciplinarity, favor contextualization and consequently the learning, contributing to scientific literacy. This learning is understood as fundamental for the formation of critical citizens, decision makers, capable of contributing to public debate regarding science and technology, the environment, education and resource management. The challenges presented in the EJA modality, demand educators aware of their social role, committed to the school context in which they are inserted.
