Abstract

This theme was selected because there is a high rate of falls in the elderly population, and the hospitalization and mortality rates are extremely high. Body posture, as well as balance, is largely controlled by the vestibular system in conjunction with the visual and somatosensory systems. The senescence processes cause effects on agility and on the quality of the physiological response time in the intrinsic and extrinsic scope of the elderly individual. However, in order to mitigate the impacts caused by falls in the elderly population, vestibular physiotherapy has shown promise in relieving symptoms while increasing the functional capacity and quality of life of the elderly individual.
