Abstract

Introduction: Worldwide, violence against women is understood as a complicated obstacle that causes consequences that affect the whole of society. Due to the high incidence of this type of violence, the health sector then began to play a significant role in combating and early identification of this which has become a serious public health problem. Objective: to assess the many challenges that nursing professionals who perform their duties in emergency services face when attending women who experience domestic violence on a daily basis. Methodology: Refers to a bibliographic review, produced through the Virtual Health Library (VHL), which used as inclusion criteria articles published in the period from 2010 to 2020, available in full in Portuguese and English, original and addressing the theme exposed, associated with the descriptors. Result: 16 articles were found and after a detailed reading of the selected articles, the following subtopics of analysis emerged: violence against women: concepts and type, evolution of protective measures and public policies to combat violence against women, consequences of experiencing violence against women. women's health and the service network and the emergency nurse as an instrument to combat violence against women. Final Considerations: It was found that the nurse has a significant duty in the fight against domestic violence, however for this action to be effective, it is necessary that he has the skills to be able to receive these women in a complete and more humanized way possible.
