The increase in body fat, especially localized fat, has contributed to low self-esteem, with this, aesthetic services and treatments have been increasingly requested in an attempt to improve body appearance with a view to raising self-esteem and personal satisfaction. The present work sought, through a bibliographic review carried out in the Scielo, Pubmed/Medline and Google Scholar databases, to verify the action of caffeine in the treatment of localized fat through intradermotherapy. Intradermotherapy is a medical procedure, introduced by Pistor in 1958 and consists of the application of intradermal injections of very diluted pharmacological substances. Some lipolytic agents used in mesotherapy are effective enough to reduce subcutaneous fat and improve body contour. The use of caffeine in intradermotherapy for the treatment of localized fat needs further studies, so that its effectiveness can be really proven, even knowing that this drug acts directly on adipose tissue, causing lipolysis of adipocytes, through inhibition of phosphodiesterase and increase in cyclic adenosine monophosphate, there are few studies that cite the use of the substance in intradermotherapy.
