Uterine fibroids are benign tumors that have a high prevalence in the female population. There are several symptomatic treatments for leiomyomas, but among the definitive treatments, myomectomy has become the treatment of choice due to its ability to preserve women's fertility. The objective of the present study was to carry out a comparative epidemiological analysis between abdominal and videolaparoscopic myomectomy in the State of Rio de Janeiro in the period from October 2015 to October 2020. This is a cross-sectional, observational and retrospective study based on in secondary and epidemiological data from the digital platform of DATASUS - Hospital Information System of the SUS (SIH/SUS) of the Ministry of Health. A total of 1,461 hospitalizations were found, 1,232 by the abdominal route and 229 by the videolaparoscopic route. Regarding the average amount spent on each hospitalization, the abdominal route has an average cost of R$633.50 and the videolaparoscopic route has an average cost of R$553.25. The average duration of each hospitalization for the procedure is shorter when using the videolaparoscopic approach compared to the abdominal approach, being 2.55 and 3.41 days, respectively. With the results obtained in the study, it is possible to perceive that despite the advantages of the laparoscopic technique, the number of surgeries performed with this technique is very low compared to open myomectomy, and further studies are needed to increase adherence to the minimally invasive technique. by gynecological surgeons.
