Abstract

Milieu Therapy, also referred to by some authors as Therapeutic Community, is a therapeutic modality that emerged in Brazil in the 1960s, initially for adult patients, however, during the same decade, the first milieu therapy for children and adolescents emerged. Currently, the milieu therapy modality through its resignification over the decades is being provided in various spaces in the health area, aiming through a therapeutic environment that simulates experiences beyond the walls of institutions, an empowering space for the patient (re)cognize as a subject of desire. The article analyzed this practice that deals with the anti-asylum (mental) humanization, through bibliographic research in which information and reflections were obtained about this action based on the potential and healthy aspects of the patient, such as the protagonism in their treatment, carrying out revisits in combinations and being able to reformulate them according to the treatment process, suggesting new activities through exchanges with the team in order to give voice to the patient’s desire. It concludes that there is a need for continued studies and research on this modality, for the purposes of knowledge about this anti-asylum action and contemporary to society.
