This article entitled the importance of play in early childhood education aims to understand the importance of play as a methodological option in the process of acquiring knowledge in teaching and learning, to analyze and observe how children in early childhood education and how play and toys can contribute to the formation and development of children's learning? This article brings some considerations about games, games and toys and how they influence the socialization of children and the educator. Vygostky (1988) adds that it is through play that the child overcomes impulsive action related to objects. For Kishimoto (2002, p. 14): “Froebel conceived play as a free and spontaneous activity of the child”. Piaget (1978), stating that through play, the child can demonstrate the cognitive level that is in addition to allowing the construction of knowledge.
