The growing number of premature and/or low birth weight newborns, with a considerable mortality rate of these babies in the first year of life, led to the thought of methods aimed at reducing these cases, with emphasis on the Kangaroo Method (MC). This has been attracting the attention of scholars and professionals around the world in recent years, as it is an accessible, low-cost and easy-to-handle method, in addition to presenting many benefits. Thus, this article aims to denote the importance of KM for premature and/or low birth weight newborns and as a justification to demonstrate the importance of the Kangaroo Method for premature and/or low weight newborns, not as a substitute method. but as a summation method to the classic technologies. An exploratory bibliographic research was carried out, through previously published works, journal articles, scientific articles and texts in the Scielo, Interfisio databases, available in electronic media, considering the contributions of the authors Brasil, Marques, Ribeiro, Silva , Maia, Lamy, with the aim of emphasizing the importance of the KM for the neuropsychomotor development of premature and low birth weight babies. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and elaborate parameters that meet the objectives of the CM, focusing on the humanization of care for the NB and their families, since this practice has many benefits at a totally affordable cost.
