This work aimed to discuss the teaching of Mathematics in the Early Years of Elementary Education, based on the analysis of some proposals of the pedagogy course at the Federal University of Pará - UFPA, about the teaching of Numbers in this stage of teaching Basic Education. From some essays by the minister of the discipline of Mathematics in the Early Years, with the use of manipulable materials, the student provoked students to develop discussions on how Mathematics can be taught with the use of these materials. The results indicate the importance of teachers in training, to know in addition to the various trends in Mathematics teaching, the methodologies that enable students to learn better, especially those that value the experiences and social realities of these students, and that show that for children in the Initial Series, Mathematics and Numbers are of great importance, as the social use of these numerical elements is part of their daily realities.
