NURSES’ PERFORMANCE IN THE PREVENTION OF HIV/AIDS IN INDIVIDUALS IN HEALTH UNITS IN DISTRICT SANITARY II IN RECIFE- PE

Objective: : To identify the role of nurses in HIV/AIDS prevention in the Basic Health Units (BHU), listing the actions performed, correlating with the current scientific literature. Method: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study with a quantitative approach7. The sample consisted of 22 nurses who work in the BHU, in the Sanitary District II (SDII), in the city of Recife-PE, applying a structured questionnaire prepared by the authors. Data collection was done in April and May 2019, after approval by the Ethics and Research Committee (ERC) of the Centro Universitário Estácio do Recife, with an opinion: 3,235,842 and CAAE: 09781619.1.0000.5640, and it was applied for analysis of simple descriptive statistics, with absolute numbers and percentage. Results: 19(86%) of the nurses were female, 16(73%) aged 40 to 47 years, 14(64%) were between 18 and 25 years of age, 22(100%) had specialization, 12(55%) had HIV/AIDS training, 14(64%) participated in annual training, 17(77%) BHU had a control strategy, 10(45%) carried out education activities every semester, 15(68%) reported 16(73%) describe the population's understanding of HIV, 22(100%) carry out counseling and testing, 12(55%) speak and talk, 14(64%) promote education activities, 22(100%) offered the condom to the population, 21(95%) performed qualified listening, 17(77%) addressed in nursing consultation cases suggestive of HIV.
