The present work is the clipping of a research for the state of the art of a doctoral project in psychology. The objective was to find doctoral theses already produced about self-mutilation. Texts were found within different approaches making their samples and instruments used for investigation. The authors read presented the results of their research and the discussion about them. Only doctoral theses were used to compose this work. It was possible to perceive, after reading, the coincidence between the authors when they say that the act of cutting themselves relieves an intense emotion on the part of the adolescents.
