This article is a conclusion work of the Postgraduate course in Military Law and aims to reflect on the legal procedures and procedures in the application of the Maria da Penha Law - Law 11.340 / 06, as well as its effectiveness in protecting women who suffer violence in the family or domestic environment by their aggressors. This work is a bibliographic research, based on the concern to better understand the laws in force in Brazil. There are several factors that lead victims not to report their partners. Often for fear of new aggressions and threats, these women do not pursue their complaints. There is still a lot to be done in relation to the laws that govern the protection of women's rights in the family, but with the Maria da Penha Law this scenario has already improved a lot, as the aggressors think before going to violence against their partners, as they will be penalized in some way by the new laws that govern the country.
