This article examines the effects of appeals in Brazilian civil procedure, based on an analysis of the 2015 Code of Civil Procedure and contemporary legal scholarship on the subject. The study first examines the divergent views in legal scholarship regarding the classification and number of appellate effects. It then delves deeper into the analysis of the effects of appeals, addressing issues such as partial appeals, the theory of “mature cause” the judgment of retraction, and the application of the principle prohibiting reformatio in pejus, especially in light of the translative effect and matters of public order.
