Abstract Ginger had its origins in tropical Asia, known since the 14th century, in China, however the Greeks and Romans already consumed it as a spice. In Brazil, it is cultivated in the coastal strip, Espírito Santo, Santa Catarina, Paraná and in the south of São Paulo. This work is a bibliographical research on ginger, scientifically known as Zingiber officinale. The aim of this research was to do a brief literature review on the role of ginger in the treatment of nausea and vomiting in oncology. This is an explanatory descriptive research of a qualitative nature. The search was performed according to inclusion and exclusion criteria in scientific articles published between 2010 and 2021 on the SciELO, Pubmed, Academic Google, ScienceDirect and MEDLINE platforms. The research was carried out on the platforms using the keywords separated into two categories: 1) First category related to ginger and its benefits 2) Second category deals with the role of ginger as an antiemetic The use of ginger as complementary medicine can help in prophylactic treatment of nausea and vomiting against side effects induced by chemotherapy treatment, but it still needs more information and more studies with positive and significant results in order to standardize not only its use, but also the prescription.
