Abstract

This article sought to analyze the effects of physical therapy intervention in an equine-assisted environment on gross motor coordination performance in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is an integrative literature review, of an exploratory and descriptive nature, conducted in PubMed, SciELO, and Google Scholar databases. The results indicate that the horse's three-dimensional movement acts as a continuous kinesio-therapeutic stimulus, promoting automatic postural readjustments and muscle tone regulation. Improvements were observed in static and dynamic balance, trunk control, gait, and broad motor repertoire of children. Simultaneously, the intervention fosters social integration, affective bonding, and functionality in daily activities. It is concluded that equine-assisted therapy is a relevant and effective physical therapy resource to minimize motor delays and provide greater autonomy and quality of life for this population.
