POLITICAL HISTORY THROUGH THE PRESS: AN ANALYSIS OF THE POLITICS OF THE CITY OF BAYEUX FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE PARAÍBA NEWSPAPER, A UNIÃO, IN 1944

Abstract

This research addresses the construction of historical memory and identity in Bayeux (PB), linking it to the event of World War II, when the city received its name in honor of the French Bayeux, liberated by the Allies. Through the analysis of the newspaper A União, the role of the press in the construction of collective memory is highlighted, mediating local and global events, and in the political legitimization of transformations in the city. The process of name change and the creation of a square are seen as symbols of memory and transformation, while journalism played a role in the formation of a collective identity, consolidating memory and resistance.
