Heart failure (HF) is characterized by a serious and growing public health problem worldwide, with high rates of morbidity and mortality and rehospitalizations, especially in industrialized countries and with a large elderly population. Some studies have shown that physical exercise is a safe and effective intervention to improve peak oxygen consumption (VO2peak) in patients with HF. Objective: The objective of this research was to verify whether the intervention of aerobic exercise in the rehabilitation of patients with heart failure is effective in improving their clinical condition and quality of life. Methods: This is a systematic review of the literature that was carried out using the PEDro, ProQuest, PubMed and SciELO databases, with the search for data occurring between the years 2010 and 2020. Results: Exercise plays an important role in any of the four states of HF (Heart Failure), physical, continuous or intermittent aerobic and strength training produce significant peripheral adaptations and important central hemodynamic changes to improve HF. Conclusions: Exercise has a promising potential for safety and benefits in cardiovascular rehabilitation in individuals with HF, in addition to providing improved functional quality and quality of life for patients.
